This used to be my absolute favourite formula, the Super Rods. I used to write a regular column in the 80s in the Midland programmes which used to sing the formulas praises and it provided many great memories, particularly when the formula was first allocated a World Championship. The first few were spectacular affairs with several close finishes. The first couple of photos are of Scunthorpe racer, Stu Donald, who was my favourite driver in the class. the first pic is of his Ford Capri at Birmingham on 9th June 1989, the second is from the National Championships in 1989, by which time he had switched to a Sierra Sapphire. One of his closest competitors on track was Tim Foxlow, who is pictured at the 1989 National Championship and in person from a year previous. In a very random next few pictures we see the Capri of Larry Dewsbury from 1984ish, Antonio Mezzullo (The Italian Stallion) from 1989, a Capri from Eric (Ez) Walker, who subsequently raced Midgets and now an Historic Stock Car, Steve Cassar - also Capri mounted and these days a circuit racer, along with son Danny. The Sierra of World Champion, Wilson Hamilton, pictured in 1990 and finally a smart Capri sitting on the trailer belonging to Richard Norman, who has raced in pretty much everything since!
