Matthew Bull
has been an oval racing photographer for about 14 years.
He was originally the official photographer at the Incarace tracks of
Hednesford and Birmingham but a move South lead to him taking up the
official photographer roles with PRI at Arena Essex and RDC at
Mildenhall and Dover. In 2008 he will also be the
official photographer at the mid-week venue - Arlington Raceway near Eastbourne.
As well as these commitments Matthew also
regularly attends other meetings on the Spedeworth, Trackstar and Incarace
rosters. Matthew is also the assistant editor of Spedeworths programme,
"Spedeweek", occasionally writes features and supplies photos for "Short
Circuit" and other Motor Sport newspapers and magazines, such as
"Motorsport News". Matthew set up Racepixels.co.uk in March 2007.
Dave
Bastock is our man o' the
Midlands and he is a keen follower of the Brisca F1 Stock Cars, F2's and Rebels.
A lifelong fan of the sport, Dave
used to mechanic for F1 Stock Car star, Nigel Whorton. When Nigel moved into the
fledgling Rebels class, Dave followed him and backed up his mechanics duties
with that of being the official Rebels photographer. These days Dave just sticks
to being behind the camera and follows his favourite classes primarily across
the Midlands and North of the country. Dave will also be a fairly regular face
at meetings featuring the Brisca Mini Stox.
Chris Berry
is our man in East Anglia! Chris is the official
photographer at the venue of the World Hot Rod final, Foxhall Stadium,
Ipswich. He is also the main photo man at Wimbledon Stadium in London.
Chris first started taking photos in 1982 and only relatively recently
made the switch to digital - he managed to make his old film camera, patched up
with sellotape and elastic bands, last an indecently long time! He is still
inclined to do the odd mad road trip to Cowdenbeath and/or Warneton in Belgium
and fit in as much racing as he can on the way. As long as his beloved Southend Utd aren't
playing on the same day!
Stuart
Bishop is the man
with his finger on the Banger racing pulse. Stu travels to most of the sports
biggest Banger meetings, as well as a number of domestic affairs at Standlake near his
Oxford base. It was at Standlake that Stu first started taking photos back in
1997, his travelling exploits started a year later and he can now generally be
seen at tracks as far afield as Cornwall and Cowdenbeath. Stuart is a regular contributor to Wasted magazine and always seems
to be in the right place at the right time to capture the sports most
spectacular of moments.

Jim Crucefix
is
the official photo man at Yarmouth Stadium in Norfolk. Jim
started his photo career at the Bovingdon oval in Hertfordshire and became the
official photographer for the fledgling "Short Circuit" magazine in the 70s. Jim
disappeared from the sport for a little while but never lost his passion for
photography and indeed runs successful courses on the subject. His return to the
sport was much welcome and he now has his hands full at the East Coast track
with regular meetings throughout the summer on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
nights!
J
Paul Huggett
has a wealth of experience of Oval Racing. He started
"Short Circuit" magazine back in 1977 and still supplies columns and
features to the publication today, now under the editorship of Mark
Haddleton. In 2006 Paul took on the production of the Spedeworth
in house magazine, "Wheelspin" to go together with his role as editor of
the Spedeworth programme "Spedeweek". He
started attending oval racing events at Lydden Hill before spreading his passion
for the sport further by actually competing in a Banger at Eastbourne and
latterly in Autograss. These days he still picks up the odd drive here and
there, but is mainly to be seen on the infield and in the pits, with either a
camera or a pen in his hand.
Melvyn
Johnson Melvyn became
hooked on the sport in his teens and walked into the photographers position at
Great Yarmouth as far back as 1970. Before that he was a keen spectator on the
terraces at the Firs Stadium in Norwich and it was on those terraces that he honed his
photographic talent. After a decade or so, Melvyn pretty much disappeared from the tracks throughout the 80s and 90s
before coming back, tooled up with the latest digital equipment, to primarily
capture the historic Hot Rod and Stock Car scene that had built up in his
absence. Rediscovering his taste for the sport he became the official
photographer at Swaffham and then Kings Lynn in 2007. He will
cover both tracks in 2008.
Steve
Lever is our
"Super-sub"!
Steve stands in for the official RDC Photographer, Matthew Bull, down at
the RDC run, Dover Raceway in Kent. Matthew generally has
other commitments at Arena Essex on Sunday afternoons! Steve also stands in
for Matthew when he is unable to attend meetings at the other RDC track at
Mildenhall. When not behind the camera, Steve can also be seen marshalling at
Mildenhall. He admits to still learning cameracraft but his work often throws up
a purler of a shot. It is a family affair
for Steve, his wife Anne can be found in the track shops at Mildenhall and
Dover. Anne will be more than happy to sell you some photographs from there!
Nick Tryon
is our man based in the North. Nick was a
regular at the Barrow track, which may yet return to the calendar in 2008. Now
an official Incarace photographer. Nick plans to attend all the Hednesford meetings as well
as occasional forays to Birmingham as well as Warton, Barford, Sheffield and other tracks in the
North. Nick is very much a Banger fan and had a lot of work published in the
infamous "Blitz" magazine and latterly 'Wasted'. Nick will also have the support of
his eldest son, Jon, when trying to capture all the action at certain meetings.
